Aaron Fernandez is currently the Director of Player Development for Davidson College women’s basketball where he focuses on skill development and scouting. Prior to arriving at Davidson, Fernandez spent the 2018-2019 season as the interim head women’s basketball coach at Mars Hill University (NCAA DII). Before breaking into the college game, he spent nine years as a high school basketball coach where he helped rebuild the program at his alma mater, Tuscola High School (Waynesville, NC). During his eight seasons there as a varsity assistant and four-year JV head coach, the varsity program won two conference titles and set the school record for wins during the 2012-13 season (24). Fernandez then went on to serve one season as the head girls’ basketball coach at Charles D. Owen High School (Black Mountain, NC) where they finished 2 nd in the conference at 20-7. The 2 nd place finish and 20 wins were the most by the girl’s program in over a decade. During this time, he also coached several youth and travel teams. Fernandez hold a B.S.Ed. in Health and Physical Education from Western Carolina University and is currently pursuing his M.Ed. in Coach Education and Athlete Development from Xavier University.
